Okay I have a little challenge for our collective intelligence. I want to design a tank 200,000+ gallons live stock rock sand everything, every detail for a hypothetical self contained tank. I have an idea on the shell il do the specifics on and get it mapped and everything. I figure this can be our little community project for awhile so of course designs ideas etc are accepted from everyone. I think itd be a lot better if we all come up with multiple designs for everything and pick whichever ...

So I have my 20 Long as we all (that are currently here) know. Stocking list is 2 Ocellaris clowns. Hopefully paired off already. 1 Peppermint shrimp and I honestly dont even know how many snails I have at this point. Got the new rock seeded (Finally) and the nutrient problems are under control. Never have pulled any really dry skimmate off the skimmer but it is consistent. This is the before pics. I plan on doing a major re model on flow soon and adding some nice rubble rock pieces I found after ...

This is my (technically) 1 year old tank. It has been re-scaped and basically emptied out 3 times but now I am probably going to keep it about the same. It is a mixed reef, SPS, LPS, softies clams, everything. The lighting is a 150w sunpod, and a coralife 14k bulb that will be replaced with a phoenix soon. I have a sapphire aquatics skimmer, it is currently awaiting a new impeller as mine shattered. Not really running any chemipure purigen etc. or cheato in this tank.
Okay, So my mom has decided she wants me to set up a 6 gallon SW tank in my room to keep me busy until we can finish the 55. So I have a couple questions after all my research: Whats the "average" lighting for a SW tank? Right now I can only swing some 5000K CFL's, Would/could that work for some LR and maybe a button polyp/taro tree? How advisable is a Yellow Tail Damsel and a CUC for this tank? Should I just go with LR/corals(?) only?

I grasp the principles of it all. Just cant ...

Very nice site, Puffer. Lot of hard work obviously. Temperate Reef, nice name too.

I was wondering, what you'd call the marine environment we have here in Panama City Beach Florida.

While the temperature gets to 85 or even more during the summer, and the reefs include butterflies, surgeonfish and angels, in the winter most of the reef fish disappear as the temperature gets down to 45-50 degrees!

Maybe it's "Sub-tropical", but just wondered what you thought about it.

Interestingly, ...

As the title says, I am most likely going to start a new tank after my birthday and Christmas and all that. I am going to do a non-coral, invert only aquarium. Sounds kind of lame but I do not want to get into the corals yet. I am thinking of going with a tank that has qutie a bit of macro algea and perhaps an anemone or two. I am also wanting a kind of "Turtle Grass" effect with an anemone in the center and macroalgea surrounding. Then all I need is some hermit crabs, snails, and shrimp. ...
