Hey everyone. First post here. Little about myself I'm 15 years old and live in the Tauranga, New Zealand. I keep a coldwater/temperate marine aquarium. Which has been up and running approx 3-4 months now and is going great. Its 1.5m by 60cm by 60cm so about 540L, with a 200L sump that is situated outside in the garage and the tank is in a different room. Stocking consists of 3 triplefins and a spotty or parketti wrasse . I'm always on the hunt for new fish ( out fishing like everyday lol) but ...

It recently dawned on me some of my local fishmarkets carry a large variety of live, temperate livestock. China Rockfish, lingcod, flounders, mussles, clams, oysters, prawns, winkles, abalone, sea cucumber, crabs, lobster, limpets and more.

Anyone ever looked at this as a source? Do any of these jump out as good livestock to cycle my tank with?

Reading over a lot of the thread here I see people tanking about temperate setups with refugiums. In a planted temperate tank would it really provide any befit? I mean, normally reefers grow algaes in order to export nutrients, but if I were to copy my native coast line... well... it is ALL algae! lol! During the summer, you can't see a rock at low tide because it they are completely encrusted. That is the tank I want to grow, and I figure that if I dump enough light on the tank ...

though I may not get this effect but it is truly inspirational - it is an 8' long tank - mine will be around half that size and probably will start with different anemones
